How big does a QR code have to be to scan reliably?
The working rule of thumb is 10:1 — a code scans comfortably from about ten times its own width. A 4 cm code on a table card is read from roughly 40 cm, which is exactly how far a phone sits from a card someone picked up.
For a code projected on a screen or printed on a roll-up, scale it to the distance of the back row: from 5 metres away you want the code around 50 cm across. Every PNG here is generated at 600 px with the highest error-correction level, so it survives being enlarged, cropped slightly, or printed on a home printer.
Where should the QR codes go at an event?
One code at the entrance collects a fraction of what one code per table does. People scan when their phone is already in their hand and they are sitting still — over dinner, during speeches, waiting at the bar. A card at the door gets walked past.
The spots that work: every table, the bar, next to the guest book, on the photo-booth backdrop, and on the screen between slides. Print more than you think you need — the A4 sheet gives you 8 cards per page, so a 12-table wedding is two sheets.
Can I change where the QR code points after printing it?
No — the address is encoded in the pattern itself, so a printed code is permanent. That is also why it keeps working forever with no account and no subscription: there is no service in the middle that can shut it down.
The practical consequence: settle the destination link before you print. Point the code at an address you control and that will not move — a gallery link, your own domain — rather than at a temporary share link from a cloud drive.
Why do guests scan the code but never upload anything?
Almost always because of what is behind the code, not the code itself. If the link opens an app-store page, a login form or a sign-up wall, most people close it right there — at a party, nobody is creating an account.
Point the code somewhere that works in the phone browser on the first tap, with no install and no registration. That single decision matters more for how many photos you collect than anything about the code itself.
