One-way video interview

Video interview practice

Rehearse a HireVue-style recorded interview: a question appears, you get 30 seconds to think and 2 minutes to answer on camera, with one retake. Then watch yourself back with a checklist. The video stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Your camera and microphone are used only on this page. Recordings are deleted when you leave it, unless you save a copy to your own device.

How a HireVue-style interview works

Check each answer against this list

  1. Did I answer the question that was asked, in the first sentence?
  2. Did I use one specific example (situation, task, action, result) rather than general claims?
  3. Did I say what I did, not only what "we" did?
  4. Did I end with a result, ideally with a number, and what I learned?
  5. Was it between one and two minutes, without long pauses or filler words?
  6. Could I be heard clearly, with the camera at eye level and my face lit from the front?

Video interviews often sit next to online tests. If your invitation also mentions games or reasoning tests, practise those too: the situational judgement test, the verbal reasoning test and the numerical reasoning test, or check which employers use which assessment.

Questions

How long do you get to answer in a HireVue interview?

The employer sets it. HireVue has described 30 seconds to prepare and up to 3 minutes to answer, and its current candidate pages say you get several minutes per question. You can usually start recording before the preparation time ends and stop before the answer time runs out.

Does HireVue analyse my face or tone of voice?

According to HireVue's own explainability statement, its AI scores only what you say: your answer is transcribed and the text is assessed against competencies, with no analysis of facial expressions, body language or tone of voice. The hiring company makes the final decision.

How many questions are in a video interview?

HireVue says most video assessments have five to eight questions and take under 20 to 30 minutes. It recommends setting aside 45 minutes. This practice runs five questions.

Can I re-record an answer?

Only if the employer allows it. The number of attempts is set by the hiring company and is often one. This practice allows one retake per question so you can compare.

Is my practice recording uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is recorded and played back inside your browser and is deleted when you leave the page. You can save a copy to your own device if you want to. GamePrep only counts that a practice run was finished; it never receives any audio or video.
