What is the direction (arrows) game practice?

Arctic Shores' Direction task is an arrows game: a row of arrows appears and you answer with the direction of the middle arrow, whatever the others are doing — Q for left, P for right. Candidates describe about eighty rounds that get faster as you go, flanking arrows that point the other way or turn into other shapes, and answers that come too early or too late counting as errors. It reads attention and focus: acting on the one signal that matters while the rest of the row pulls the other way.

How this practice version works. Eighty rounds. The time you have to answer shrinks from 1.5 seconds to 0.65 seconds; miss it and the round counts as wrong. Some rows agree, some disagree, some have dashes around the arrow, and some rounds show a block of three rows instead of one — and on some the middle arrow is surrounded by Xs, where the right answer is to press nothing, as a 2021 recording of the real task shows. Each answer gets a tick or a cross. Score: 70% accuracy, 30% speed of your correct answers.

What helps: keep your eyes on the centre before the row appears, answer from what you see there, and keep both fingers resting on Q and P so speed comes from your eyes, not your hands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Arctic Shores direction game?

It is an arrows task: a row of arrows appears and you press Q if the middle arrow points left and P if it points right, ignoring the arrows around it. Candidates describe about eighty rounds that speed up, with too-early or too-late answers counting as errors.

What keys does the Arctic Shores direction game use?

Arctic Shores' own help centre gives Q for left and P for right. This practice version accepts Q and P, the arrow keys, and on-screen buttons on a phone.

What are the rounds with Xs?

Rounds where the middle arrow is surrounded by Xs, and the right response is to press nothing. A 2021 recording of the real task shows them, with the instruction not to press any button.

Is this the same as the flanker test?

It is the same family. Our flanker test gives you time to answer each row; this version adds the Arctic Shores features candidates describe — a shrinking time limit, dash flankers, and the no-press X rounds.
