The behavioural side — play it straight

If your SHL invitation includes a personality questionnaire like the OPQ, treat it as self-description, not a test with correct answers. Trying to present an idealised "perfect employee" tends to produce an inconsistent, less credible profile, and many questionnaires include consistency checks. Answer honestly and at a steady pace; where a statement clearly relates to the role, you can lean toward your genuine strengths, but do not manufacture a persona. A coherent, authentic profile is both easier to sustain and more useful to you — landing in a role that fits how you actually work beats bluffing into one that does not.

How scoring works

SHL cognitive tests are norm-referenced: your raw performance is converted into a percentile or standardised score against a comparison group, so there is no fixed pass mark. Verify Interactive's adaptive engine means the questions calibrate to your level, and getting early items right steers you toward higher-value questions. Can I retake an SHL assessment? Usually one attempt per application, though some employers reuse a valid recent result or allow a retest after a cooling-off period. Practising beforehand is always fair game.

Is SHL the same at every employer? The Verify Interactive tasks are standardised, but each employer picks the modules, the norm group and the cut-off score, so the effective difficulty of clearing the bar varies. Read each invitation on its own terms.
